1. You can use ICA-AtoM to upload [[Digital object|digital objects]], e.g. digital photographs, scanned images, born-digital electronic records. These can be searched and browsed by end-users.

2. Every [[Digital object|digital object]] must be associated with an [[Archival description|archival description]], typically at the item level. Add a new [[Archival description|archival description]] or open an existing one to link to the [[Digital object|digital objects]] you want to upload.

3. Click on the ''Digital Object'' [[Information area|information area]].

4. Click the [[Browse button]] to navigate to and select the [[Digital object|digital object]]. Click the ''Open'' button; ICA-AtoM stores a link to the [[Digital object|digital object's]] path. It creates two additional images: a [[Thumbnail|thumbnail]] and a [[Reference display copy|reference display copy]] (in case the original image is too large to display in the ICA-AtoM interface).

5. Click the [[Save button]]. When you return to the [[View screen]], the [[Reference display copy|reference copy]] will be displayed in the ''Digital object'' field.

6. Note that at higher [[Level of description|levels of description]], the ''Digital object'' field shows all objects from all lower [[Level of description|levels]] registered to it (not illustrated), e.g. the fonds record will show all [[Digital object|digital objects]] in the fonds, the series all objects belonging to the series, etc.
