User roles

Your User account in ICA-AtoM is tied to one of five user roles, each representing a different level of access to the system.


Researcher

  • Does not require a user name or password.
  • Has view-only access to the application.
  • Can search and browse descriptions (archival descriptions, authority records, institution descriptions).
  • Is the default role whenever a user accesses the application without logging in.


Contributor

  • Is a registered user with a unique user name and password.
  • Can search, browse, create and edit descriptions.
  • In a multi-repository system, create / edit access may be limited to descriptions originating from his or her own institution.


Editor

  • Is a registered user with a unique user name and password.
  • Can search, browse, create and edit descriptions.
  • Can delete records.
  • Can edit controlled-vocabulary terms.


Translator

  • Is a registered user with a unique user name and password.
  • Can search and browse descriptions.
  • May or may not be able to create, edit and delete records.
  • Can translate user interface elements and database content.
  • May have translation access limited to a particular language.


Administrator

  • Is a registered user with a unique user name and password.
  • Has full access to the system to create, read, update or delete any record in the system.
  • Can customize application to institution-specific requirements.
  • Manages user accounts and profiles.
